Privacy Policy

Effective October 9, 2026

Adopt a Cool Dog ("we," "us") is a volunteer group that helps dogs at Los Angeles animal shelters find foster and adoptive homes. This policy explains what information we collect on adoptacooldog.com, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

What you give us: your first name, email address, and mobile number if you choose to share it.
Your quiz answers: whether you want to foster or adopt, the dog you picked, where you live, whether you own or rent, who lives with you, how long a dog would be alone, your experience with dogs, and whether you accept an adoption fee and home check.
Text message consent: whether you agreed to receive texts, the consent wording you saw, and when you agreed.
Technical information: the page you visited, the link or ad that brought you here, and information collected by cookies and similar tools, described below.

How we use it

To match you with dogs that fit your home and send you to the right adoption or foster application.
To contact you by email, and by text if you opted in, about fostering, adopting, and dogs that need homes.
To understand which ads and pages bring people who foster or adopt, so we can spend our small budget well.
To keep our records accurate and to follow the law.

Text messages

If you check the text message box, you agree to receive recurring texts from Adopt a Cool Dog about fostering and adopting dogs, which may be sent using automated technology. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Consent is not a condition of fostering or adopting. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. Full program terms are in our Terms.

We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile number or text message consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Text message opt-in data and consent are never shared with anyone except the service providers that help us send messages.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these cases:

Service providers that run our website, forms, email, and texting, such as our website and messaging platform. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
Advertising and analytics tools such as the Meta (Facebook) pixel, which record actions like starting the quiz or signing up so we can measure our ads. Meta handles this data under its own policies.
Shelters and rescue partners, only to help you foster or adopt. When you click through to a Petfinder listing, you leave our site, and anything you submit there goes to Petfinder and the shelter under their own privacy policies.
When the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people or animals.

Cookies and tracking

Our pages use cookies and pixels, including the Meta pixel, to measure visits and ad results. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can manage ad preferences in your Facebook and Instagram settings. The site still works if you block them.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while we are actively placing dogs and for as long as needed to honor your requests, including opt-outs. You can ask us to delete it at any time. We keep a record of text opt-outs so we don't message you again.

Your choices and rights

Unsubscribe from email using the link in any email.
Stop texts by replying STOP.
Ask to see, correct, or delete your information by emailing [email protected].

California residents may request to know what personal information we have collected about them, ask us to delete or correct it, and opt out of any sale or sharing of it. We do not sell personal information. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. Email us to make a request, and we will verify it before responding.

Children

This site is for adults. Fostering and adopting require being 18 or older, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor gave us information, email us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reputable service providers and limit access to the volunteers who need it. No website is perfectly secure, so please don't send us sensitive information we haven't asked for.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. Big changes will also be posted on this page before they take effect.
